about

the twenty ninth synthesis techniques challenge - In this weekly series we'll explore the myriad of ways one can synthesize sound.
-highpass filters set to 20hz or less act as dc blockers, though with a phase shift so watch out for clipping and asymmetry!
-highpass filters can also be used to boost low frequencies if the cutoff frequency tracks the fundamental of a sound and you boost the resonance a bit
-highpass filters can also be used to create a shelf filter like on an EQ - just mix the highpass signal with the dry signal!
-lowpass filters can be used as shelf filters in the same manner
-lowpass filters can also be used to narrow the range of a sidechain to just the bass frequencies, like a kick
-lowpass filters can also be used to boost the highs similar to a highpass boosting lows, just don't modulate it
-lowpass filters tuned to sub audio can turn sounds like noise into a low rumble you feel rather than hear
-mix a lowpass and a highpass of the same filter for a linear phase 2 band EQ
-subtract the lowpass and highpass of the same filter to create a phase modulator
-filters with LP, HP, and BP outputs can be used as 3-band EQs with a mixer, or for splitting signals for processing, as is done in the BBE sonic maximiser
-most EQs are made of a low shelf, high shelf, and multiple bands in between. You can replicate this with filters because EQs are filterbanks.
-run a lowpass into a highpass (or vv) to create a wide bandpass
